Worrh the climb to the top of the island to see this rare historical gem.
Nothing fancy but it tells the story of the fort well and the views are spectacular. Alas, there were no reenactors when I visited.
Long bike ride up the hill, but worth the views! Perfect place to enjoy your fudge!
A fun place to visit, with the most beautiful views! It is free and has the history of the fort inside. We parked our bikes at Skull Cave, ate a picnic lunch, and hiked to Sugar Loaf. From Sugar Loaf we took the trail of stairs up to a breathtaking view and followed the trail to Fort Holmes. From Fort Holmes we took the stair trail back to Skull Cave. It was a perfect hike. We talked to wonderful people along the way.
Nice short visit. Lots of information, dates, and historical data to take in. More than 600ft ascent to get there, fun and worth it.
